Santa Cruz is the second sustainable destination of America

Santa Cruz Island, in Galapagos, ranks second in America, of the 100 best sustainable destinations in the world. The award was granted by Green Destinations, an organization part of the Global Sustainable Tourism Network (GSTN) and rewards the efforts to develop an ecological tourism.
The award was presented at the ITB Berlin 2018 in Germany, one of the most important fairs in the world. Academic experts and business sustainability experts analyzed basic criteria on climate and environment, tourism policy and destination management. Santa Cruz met all the criteria.
Santa Cruz is the axis of the economic activities of the Galapagos. In this island, measures have been implemented such as the use of renewable energies, waste management and reduction of fossil fuel use to reduce environmental impact. (I)
