Posted On 03 Apr 2013

Although the agenda of the National Electoral Council (CNE) was intending to announce the exact date of the sectional elections of 2014 on next April 26 in Tena, yesterday, through a public bulletin, the agency revealed that the next elections will be held on February 16, 2014.

CNE President, Domingo Paredes ruled out that on the local elections to be held next year, would undertake electoral reforms. This is because, under the Constitution, any change should be approved one year before the elections and only 10 months remain until they are carried out.

Domingo Paredes: "Sectional Elections will not have any electoral reforms."

Domingo Paredes: “Sectional Elections will not have any electoral reforms.”

Paredes confirmed that the recommendations of the international missions will be implemented in the next election process on issues such as increased training and monitoring to prevent previous campaigns off the calendar, failures in the intermediate boards and equal participation of candidates in the media.

“Let’s find all the mechanisms and procedures so the next elections will be free of the distortions that were observed in this year,” said Paredes.
