Selena Quintanilla: A Queen for posterity

Selena Quintanilla
It’s been 18 years since her death; however Selena Quintanilla continues to exist today through her music. That’s why the “Queen of Tex-Mex” is considered the third best-selling latina artist with 60 million records sold, after Shakira and Gloria Estefan.
This immortal interpreter still has a lead role in the musical world and it’s because Selena is already a part of a music revolution in the genres of grupera, tex-mex, tecnocumbia, Northern and Latin pop.
At just 23 years old, Selena was killed by the president of her fans club and best friend, Yolanda Saldivar. Four months after her death, was released her posthumously album “Dreaming of You”, which achieved unimaginable sales and till these days people and musicians still pay tribute to her, as in her death anniversary number 17 with the release of a duet album entitled “Enamorada de ti” (In love with you) .
This young artist became, not only with her music but also with her style and charisma, a female icon, to the point of being known as the “Latin Madonna”. Moreover, her approach and close relationship with her followers was something that helped her to become one of the largest Latino divas, and queen of this type of music.
Eighteen years have passed and still no one has come to replace her and is not likely that by now someone can success in that music genre.
