Senae seized containers with contraband goods
The National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae for its Spanish acronym) seized two containers that allegedly smuggled into the country, said Jorge Rosales, District Director of the Senae. The merchandise is valued at USD 1.2 million and represent approximately USD 600 000 in tax evasion. This action was possible thanks to a call to the 1800-delito (1800-crime).
About 300 bales of used and new clothes, shoes, perfumes, body creams and video games were some of the items found in two containers. This merchandise was still in storage warehouses in the Customs Office when the complaint was received.
“These types of operations are important because contraband, especially the clothes one cause harm to the domestic industry and formal importers,” said Rosales.
He added that “this is the largest seizure that has been done so far thanks to a report to the 1800-delito, but until August of this year $ 28 million in smuggling have been already seized.”
