Posted On 17 Jul 2014
A boat with contaminating products that ran aground in May and generated an environmental emergency in the Ecuadorian Galapagos Islands, a World Heritage , was sunk outside the marine reserveof that region, stated yesterday the Galapagos National Park (GNP for its Spanish acronym).
The authorities had planned to sink the ship 20 miles off of the marine reserve, at a 2,500 feet depth point.
The PNG pointed that the ship aground represented a risk of contamination within the marine protected area.
The Minister of Environment Lorena Tapia said that they will evaluate the “environmental damage caused by this accident, both in the marine and terrestrial part of the primary stranding zone, with which the plan will.”
