Smart Meters are Being Installed in Guayaquil
Ecuadorian Electricity company began a pilot project in sectors from Puerto Azul to Chongón, which involves the installation of new smart meters which allow to know daily consumption on domestic, commercial or industrial areas, so electricity could be optimize or rationalize. Each user must enter to the entity’s website and check the flow of energy that has had the meter for a day, week or month, with an account code and password.
Besides the readings, these meters can order cuts, reconnection or know if it was off/on or removed.
On the coast way 5,00 of these devices are working, most of which have already been installed; each one costs $158, the industrials worth $600 and $ 3,500 the collectors. Changing the divice will not have cost for subscribers.
In the future the billing will be made via e-mail in order to reduce paper costs, printing, and mailing; while for users with mechanical meters, this month a new form of billing will begin, the technicians of the entity will carry a portable “Hand Held” device, that will read the bar code of the meter and will send information in a couple of minutes, after that the information will be printed and left in the house. This will reduce a process that takes up to 10 days.
