Staff of Spanish embassies on strike
Ecuadornews:
Yesterday, October 16, 2017, the workers of the Spanish diplomatic mission in Ecuador came together to demand an improvement of their working conditions. They work at the Embassy and General Consulates of Quito and Guayaquil, the Commercial Office, the Cooperation Office and the Residence of the Ambassador.
In Quito, protesters held a sit-in outside the Consulate in the morning. The diplomatic staff of all Spanish embassies abroad are on strike. A total of 7,000 public employees accuse the government of discrimination.
The list of claims has five points, including fair and dignified salaries, after nine years of frozen salaries, compliance with and respect for the norms of International Law and the Ecuadorian Law, among others. This happens precisely when the Spanish Government faces an internal crisis by the attempt of the Community of Catalonia to become an independent state. (I)
