Strong winds affect air navigation in Tababela
According to reports, weather events in the area of Tababela, where the new airport of Quito is located, have been very intense, becoming dangerous when maneuvering the aircraft.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi for its Spanish acronym) indicates that the location of the terminal, in the plain of Oyambaro-Puembo, is responsible of these climate incidents, plus the dry season have started in Quito, causing strong changes of weather.
Tababela area is common for the presence of variable winds reaching an intensity of up to 12 meters per second, while in the city the winds are up to eight meters per second. It is also affected by constant gusts of wind because is surrounded by gorges like Guambi, Santa Rosa and the Guayllabamba Canyon.
