Switzerland seeks to negotiate a cooperation agreement with Ecuador

The Ministry of Foreign Trade (MCE) announced on November 17 that it received a formal communiqué from the Government of Switzerland, with regards the proposal that country will make to the Free Trade Association (EFTA) on the possibility of negotiating a cooperation agreement with Ecuador.The EFTA, comprised by Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, was scheduled to meet to discuss the issue. “This would lead us in the medium term to start a process of trade negotiations with the four countries. It’s good news,” said the Minister of Foreign Trade, Francisco Rivadeneira.
Rivadeneira said that this action is the result of the visit of President Rafael Correa to Switzerland. He said that this is an interesting agreement, since on the base of the negotiated with the European Union (EU), Ecuador can advance with Switzerland and other countries.
