The District Court of The Hague rejected the request for annulment of the 2018 award that was raised by Ecuador.
The District Court of The Hague ruled in favor of Chevron Corporation in its legal dispute with the Republic of Ecuador. It ratified the arbitration award of the tribunal of the Permanent Court of The Hague that was issued on August 30, 2018.
In that award, the arbitral tribunal determined that the legal team of the plaintiffs obtained the judgment in the Provincial Court of Sucumbíos against Chevron by means of fraud.
The District Court of The Hague rejected the annulment request presented by the Republic of Ecuador and ratified the validity of the award.
The arbitration between Chevron and the Republic of Ecuador is in the final phase, the quantification of damages. The company seeks to recover the costs it has incurred in the lawsuit that was filed in 2003 in Lago Agrio. (I)
