International economic aid to support the reconstruction of the populations affected by the earthquake of April 16 would amount at the moment about $ 630 million, if considering the credit lines that have been offered by multilateral agencies and the donations of governments and NGOs.

President Rafael Correa said Monday that contingency lines for $ 600 million had been activated. Of those, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Wednesday materialized a loan for Ecuador of up to $ 300 million.
Director of the IDB Luis Alberto Moreno informed that this credit will be financed with resources from the Contingent Credit Facility for Natural Disaster Emergencies, a tool provided by the structure of the bank.

In addition, the IDB approved “an emergency donation of $ 200,000” to complement the immediate measures like provision of food, water, medicine and shelter for the victims in the most affected provinces: Manabi and Esmeraldas.
