Industrial plants that process rice in Ecuador will not have to abide by the processes of the called Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The Industrial Rice Growers Corporation (Corpcom) applauded the measure, since such companies no longer need to meet a series of standards, as food processing companies do for direct consumption.
Javier Chon Lama, president of the union, said that this decision of the National Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (ARCSA) is accurate and they had been working for two years on its repeal.
Rice plants are prominent, especially in Guayas, because they are among the few industries that are domiciled in rural areas. “This prevents us to make large and unnecessary investments,” says Chon.(I)
