Trial phase began in the Fausto Valdiviezo case

Five people were called to trial in the case of the murder of journalist Fausto Valdiviezo. The Second Judge of Criminal Guarantees of Guayas, Sonia Garcia, established the beginning of the trial stage in the process.

The preparatory hearing of the trial and opinion formulation was resumed yesterday after being suspended last Friday.

The judge summoned Juan Carlos M.  to appear in Court,  who is  a fugitive for allegedly ordered the murder, and his ex girlfriend Ingrid L., as an alleged accomplice and who was arrested after surrendering herself to the pólice.

The defendants were accused during the hearing by the prosecutor, Victor Altamirano, who included Juan Carlos R., Luis P. and Maricel C., as accessories  to the crime, who, by decision of the judge, due the lack of incriminating evidence, changed the criminal offense to concealers. Therefore ordered their freedom through a ballot of release.

Julio Cueva, Valdiviezo’s family lawyer, explained that  the charge of concealers does not support the preventive detention.
