Edgar Samaniego, rector of the Central University, insists that by 2014 there will be a deficit of teachers within the system of higher education in the country.

In addition, he called on the authorities to debate about the measures which has to be taken to avoid  the problem to  be aggravated. However, this institution moves almost alone with his approach.

The past 20 of March of the current year, the authorities attended the Council of higher education (CES) to present their proposals, however, René Ramírez, who presides over the body and is also the head of the National Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Senescyt), ruled out the possibility of reforming the Organic Law of Higher Education (LOES).

Ramirez described as apocalyptic the vision of Samaniego and said his administration was bad, by registering a budgetary execution of  USD 128 million and not take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Senescyt, to confront the “Stampede”, product of the Teaching Career Regulations and Teaching Scale.

After more than one week of the mobilization and cross-point versions, the Association of universities and polytechnic schools of Ecuador (Asuepe) has not acted on the matter.

Luis Loving , rector of the Technical University of Ambato, said that is likely possible that a crisis is approaching, but that they are on time, and ruled out the possibility to shut down some careers.

“A teacher can easily take a fourth level course, a master’s degree, to avoid the crisis.”, said Amoroso.
