U.S. and Mexico study measures to prevent immigrant children
Given the large flow of Central American children who in recent weeks have come alone, without their families to the United States through Mexico, Presidents Barack Obama and Enrique Peña Nieto studied yesterday via telephone possible solutions to the problem.
“The Deputy Prime Minister Joe Biden will participate in a regional meeting in Guatemala on Friday to address this urgent humanitarian issue, a good opportunity to cooperate with Mexico to find concrete proposals that goes to the root of illegal immigration coming from Central America”, confirmed the White House in a statement.
In the telephone conversation, Obama and Peña Nieto discussed the “shared” responsibility of nations to guarantee security in both countries and throughout the region.
Obama pointed out that children who arrive to the United States alone are at risk of being victims of crime and abuse, and in this sense, he welcomed the work of Mexico to convince the families of these children not to send them across the border.
