U.S. Considers “Unjustified” the Untimely Removal of Hodges
The United States Department described as “unjustified” the statements given by the Ecuadorean government declaring the U.S. Ambassador in the country as an “unwelcome person”, Heather Hodges.
Mark Toner, spokesman for the U.S. Unit, said that Hodges is one of the agents “with more experience and talent” possessed by the State Department and announced that the U.S. officials will discuss “the options” they have to respond to the Ecuadorian decisions.
Because of this, there have been diplomatic tensions between Ecuador and the United States; however, Foreign Minister of Ecuadorian Government Ricardo Patiño said the problems were directly with Ambassador Hodges and has nothing to do with the U.S. government.
Now the Foreign Ministry is aware of the reaction that has the United States but “we expect the reaction will not affect our relations,” said Patiño.
