Posted On 06 Jul 2014
The Ukrainian national flag was raised yesterday in the city of Slaviansk as a symbol of reconquest in this city that was under control of the Kiev forces, according to Defense Minister Valeri Gueletei.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave the order to assert the victory, which could be a turning point in “the antiterrorist operation” aimed to regain control of the pro-Russian separatist areas of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The capture of the city, in hands of the insurgents since April 6, is the greatest victory of the Ukrainian army in the conflict that has lasted 3 months and has endangered the unity of this Former Soviet republic.
