Unasur suspends Foreign Ministers meeting scheduled for this week
Uruguayan government sources confirmed today the suspension of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), scheduled for Thursday in Montevideo.
The suspension of the Foreign Ministers summit adds to a similar measure taken last week in relation to the summit of Presidents of the organism, which remained ineffective due to problems in the agenda of the presidents.
The presidential summit was initially for the month of October, when Surinam shall transfer to Uruguay the pro tempore presidency of the continental organization.
Moreover, technical meetings scheduled for today and Wednesday were suspended, although the reasons for this delay were not officially announced.
Uruguay wants that UNASUR debates on the situation in the Gaza Strip because according to Foreign Minister Luis Almagro, “it would be good if there were regional consensus” on the issue.
