Universities conform to standards for degrees

Universities have already started to implement the new guidelines set in the Academic Regime Regulation approved last November by the Higher Education Council (CES for its Spanish Acronym). Some universities already have their Certification Unit and others are reforming their processes to comply with the regulation.

The 57 Universities of the country will have a term of 18 months to implement this department, which shall provide to the graduate various titration modalities.

The regulation indicates that the alternatives are to present research papers, essays and to take an exam (measuring knowledge of graduates) . It is alsomentioned as options to create business, artistic or educational projects. These projects will replace the thesis work .

According to Ecotec´s Rector Fidel Marquez, this university have chosen three modalities: project development, essay sustaining and complexive test.

Sonia Roca, Chancellor of the University of the Pacific , said that in their case, the options applied are the creation of a Project and the complexive test.

In both institutions the implementation of units of titration is not new. Its representatives explained that the only changes have been the titration modalities.

Lobelia Cisneros, of the Oversight Committee of the University of Guayaquil , said that conversations are held with the authorities of the academic units to define the type of degree, and next week workshops on the regulation will conclude.
