VAT will be eliminated for induction cookers

With 91 votes in favor, 20 against and 4 abstentions, the Production Incentives and Tax Fraud Prevention Law was approved yesterday.  A proposal from Alianza País and the production sector was included in this law, which states that gas cookers will have a Special Consumption Tax (ICE for its Spanish acronym) of 100%. This was indicated by the AP Assemblywoman Ximena Ponce, who also noted that in the other hand, the 12% VAT would be eliminated for induction cookers.

This measure aims to encourage the use of electric cookers, discouraging the purchase of gas cookers, Ponce said.

The Assemblywoman added that this measure gives the gas stoves a special character of consumption and given that the 100% will be allocated from the ICE, this would double the price of every kitchen.

“The value will be doubled. If you use the electrical service and decide not to help the change of the energy matrix and to use gas, the gas and cookers price will rise. It is a strong disincentive for gas consumption,” she said.
