The promotion of internal tourism in holidays, weekends and specific seasons of the year is where the “Travel Ecuador” program, presented this Thursday, February 6, in Guayaquil, by the Ministry of Tourism.

This initiative is intended to identify, select and prepare the tourist offer of the different destinations in the country to ensure the safety of visitors and ensure that they live quality experiences nationwide, for which they are working together with the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD) and representatives of the sector.
Tourism Minister Rosi Prado de Holguin said that this program “will help Ecuadorians plan and decide their trips throughout the year.
To tourism entrepreneurs to prepare to provide quality services; and, to the GADs to organize their different strategies, to ensure that their visitors live wonderful experiences. ”
The program has three specific axes: destination selection, structuring of a benefits package and recognition of
better practices. With the intention of diversifying the destinations for each holiday, its typology will be taken into account, as well as the level of demand for tourists and an emblematic product.
The Vice Minister of Tourism, Mariano Proaño, explained that the State Portfolio will deliver to the destinations that join the program a portfolio of incentives that includes, among other things a promotional package (dissemination campaign, digital magazine and promotional videos), a commercial one (structuring of tourist packages, publications on the Viaja Ecuador page, dissemination of social networks).
In addition, support in the communication field with press conferences, newsletters, and the “Travel Safe” campaign . GADs will also receive training in customer service and clean bathrooms, as well as an opinion poll on the destination (post holiday).
To be part of “Travel Ecuador” each GAD must meet specific requirements such as: cleanliness of the destination, security throughout the territory, control of vehicular traffic, control of informality and an agenda of activities for each holiday.
For this first Carnival holiday, the following 11 GADs from the Coast, Andes and the Amazon will work: Ambato, Salinas, Atacames, Manta, Tena, Guaranda, Bahía de Caráquez, Puerto López, Puyo, Montañita and Olón , whose representatives They were given the benefits package mentioned. For the following holidays, other GADs will be determined by expanding the participation of various destinations.
This joint work will enhance Ecuador’s tourism development and will make this activity the first source of income after oil.
Beach Season
In the framework of the event, the start of the beach season on the Coast was also presented, which begins with the vacations of the students of the region and the chimestral recess of the Sierra.
Zonal coordinator 5, Felipe Álava, invited domestic and foreign tourists to visit the beaches of all Ecuador and benefit from varied tourist offers in relation to destinations, gastronomy, crafts, nature and adventure in these places where the sun, the sand and the sea form the main stage.
Ecuador has 22 cantons with a coastal profile, which receive approximately 20,000 tourists per destination on holiday dates.
This mobilization of internal tourists represents 45% to 60% hotel occupancy and a representative economic activation of the country.
This beach season is intended to activate not only visits to the beaches, but cultural tourism, adventure tourism and ecotourism.
As part of the event, a sample of the beach destinations where the representatives of Santa Elena, Esmeraldas, Manabí, El Oro and Playas participated, bringing a presentation of the tourist experience and offer they have prepared to receive national and foreign tourists during the beach season.
