Novak Djokovic lost by 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6 and 9-7 against Stanislas Wawrinka in a game that lasted four hours. The Swiss gained access for the first time to the Australian Open semifinals.
After the victory, Wawrinka broke the streak of 28 consecutive games held by Djokovic since his defeat in the final of the U.S. open.
In the semifinals, Wawrinka will play against the Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych, who won 6-1, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to the Spanish David Ferrer.
“It was extremely difficult, very hard physically. In the third set I was not playing my best tennis. This is the first set of the tournament that I’ve had ups and downs. But quickly I focused myself again and I was solid on my serve,” said Berdych.
