Weekly Saturday Adress confirmed for this Saturday
This Saturday, the weekly address led by President Rafael Correa will be broadcasted, despite the head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Domingo Paredes, exhorted the president to abstain.
The Secretariat for Communication (SECOM), confirmed that the Address will be transmitted from Plaza Grande, in the center of Quito.
The Public Service Law (LOSEP), dictates in Article 24 , that is prohibited for public servants to exercise electoral activities, in use of their position to get profit from it.
According to the members of the National Electoral Council, the gaps in the Code of Democracy do not allow to regulate some aspects. José Cisneros, director of Supervisors, agreed that regulation is needed. He also held that is necessary to establish what public servants and candidates for reelection can do and what they cannot do during the campaign.
According to vocal Juan Pablo Pozo, in case of breaking the electoral silence in the Weekly address, it shall be opened a dossier and send it to the Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE) for an appropriate penalty.
