What are the crimes that Jacobo Bucaram is linked to?

The State Attorney General’s Office and the Council of the Judiciary (CJ) issued an official statement rejecting a threat against the life of one of the judges who knows one of the cases that is being pursued against Jacobo Bucaram Pulley, son of the former president Abdalá Bucaram.

What are the crimes that Jacobo Bucaram is linked to?

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the threat was made by “three foreign individuals”, who demanded that the judge “revoke measures, change them or abide by the consequences”.

For this reason, the Public Ministry warned that it activated the protocols of the National System of Protection and Assistance to Victims, Witnesses and other participants in the Criminal Process (Spavt), “which will allow safeguarding the integrity of the official in question, as well as of the others who take part in related processes ”.

The Judiciary proceeded in the same way, which indicated that the body “defends judicial independence, a constitutional principle included in our third line of action and rejects, in all cases, possible interference in the administration of justice.”

Between the night of Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, Jacobo Bucaram Pulley , after being located and detained in Medellín (Colombia), was expelled from that country.

Hours later he was transferred to Quito, where a court ordered preventive detention against him, while an investigation lasts in a case of organized crime and for the alleged irregular sale of medical supplies during the pandemic.

Within the investigations, Jacobo will have to answer for the death of the Israeli citizen Shay Dahan, murdered in August of this year, when he was in the Litoral Penitentiary, with whom he spoke a few weeks before his death, according to the expert opinions of a call recorded between him and the former president’s son.

The COIP contemplates a penalty of between 7 and 10 years in prison

For this crime, the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP) stipulates a prison term of between 3 and 5 years.

However, Claudia Romero, the prosecutor in the case, decided to reformulate charges for organized crime. Judge Ronald Guerrero, from the Guayaquil Criminal Judicial Unit, accepted the request. The diligence will take place on Tuesday, October 6. This means that you would be prosecuted for a sentence of between 7 and 10 years. (I)
