Wildfires burn 9000 hectares in Ecuador
The Minister of Environment, Marcela Aguiñaga, reported that wildfires in Ecuador have affected about 9,000 hectares of forests and grasslands.
The figure differs from that presented by the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR for its Spanish acronym), which estimated over 14,000 hectares destroyed by the fires.
Aguiñaga said that the total figure can only be obtained once the fires has been extinguished in the 9 provinces declared on orange alert. (MZ)
