YASunidos makes a challenge on the signature verification process carried out by the CNE
Last Wednesday representatives of the environmental group YASunidos attended the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) to challenge the resolution of the electoral body of last May 8, which notified a lack of signatures on behalf of the activist group to call a referendum to prevent oil exploitation in the block 43 or ITT fields of the Yasuni National Park.
The challenge, filed by lawyers Julio Cesar Trujillo and Paul Piedra Vivar, also requests, to verify 100% of the signatures submitted by the group, ie, 856,704, and to ensure a new signature verification process.
Moreover, the lawyers said the signatures allegedly discredited by the CNE, should be publicly exposed so that every citizen can determine if their will was respected and taken into account.
Finally, they request the CNE to deliver the digital backup, organized by lot and folder of the rejected forms; to safeguard the physical forms to prevent loss or destruction, and to let the environmental group to audit the computer system used in the signature verification process.
