In order to expand the market of farmers and the consumer to access a healthy and quality product was launched the seal of family farming (AFC) that welcomes 150 entrepreneurs. As part of the start of this project promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mag), indigenous leaders held a ceremony that thanks the Pacha Mama for its kindness and the richness of its products.
“It’s from the land where we get everything, so we should always be grateful and a sign is to do this ritual in order to continue blessing this idea that helps our families,” said Natali Cueva inhabitant of the parish Cebadas canton Guamote and who for 30 years is dedicated to making cheese
The Seal of quality is a hallmark that guarantees the social origin of agri-food products in the commercialization spaces, consumers can identify them and make the decision to choose them under the guarantee that they are quality foods and under the requirements of a protocol that complies with all the health rules.
“To gain access to this seal, agricultural and livestock practices, processing and quality are verified, thus recognizing the efforts of the families that come together to start a business,” said Roberto Gortaire, district director of Mag.
The official added that Chimborazo is one of the first provinces to officially launch and deliver the Quality Seal to 150 families, “but every year we have the goal of increasing this number and that more people benefit from entering this project,”he said.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, 70% of the food consumed in Ecuador comes from the Campesino Family Farming (AFC), so the stamp is necessary to differentiate the products of peasant origin through their particularities.
