Ecuadornews:
The UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has agreed to finance a $ 20 million project to boost the rural economy in Ecuador.
The vice president of that organization Michel Mordasini and Ecuador’s ambassador to Italy Juan Holguín signed an agreement in Rome to help some 20,000 families living in the coastal provinces of Guayas and Los Ríos, the Amazonian provinces of Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe, and highlands province of Azuay.
Holguín explained to Efe that the goal is helping “small rural producers to overcome situations of exclusion and poverty” through a system called popular and solidarity economy, which “generates opportunities for them to enter the market without depending on bigger producer sand buyers.” (I)
