25 years have passed since Andres Gomez’s victory at Roland Garros
Posted On 10 Jun 2015
It was June 10, 1990 when the Ecuadorian tennis player Andres Gomez took the win at the Roland Garros tournament. In an interview with El Universo, Andres remembers this great achievement.
Gomez said he always dreamed of winning a Grand Slam, and that winning at age 30 was not a common age, because for him “it was the culmination of a stage of my career that impelled me to do other things.”
Defeating Agassi was a moment of relief for Andres, which was very satisfying for him, and perhaps a little wiped off his head by the excitement of the moment. The tennis player is still without understanding what it actually means.
At home he has the cup, the book and publications of Roland Garros, in the library, as well as the balls he used to practic with at then.
Andrew said that his life did not change after winning in Paris, “My life followed a normal course.” Gomez is still involved in tennis at other levels.
