771 tons of drugs have been destroyed in two years

This year the amount of drugs destroyed increased, compared to last year. This was reported by the National Police on December 12, 2023.

To destroy the drug in Ecuador, the encapsulation method is used.

According to a statistical report from that entity, in 2022, 304 tons of narcotics were eliminated. On the other hand, from January to December 11 By 2023, 467 tons of drugs were destroyed nationwide.

The Police said that the encapsulation method is used to destroy illicit substances seized in anti-drug operations.

“This process is a friendly method with the ecosystem, fast and low cost,”, indicated the Police.

What is encapsulation?

Encapsulation for narcotics destruction is performed using a special mixture that is solidified and buried following rigorous environmental protocols.

The destroyed drugs are mixed with concrete and go to a security cell (environmental pool).

The process is guided by experts and has the support of the United Nations, the United States Embassy and the European Union.
