Estero Salado Would Be Purified
After almost a year from the government announcement of the decontamination of Estero Salado, the main estuary from Guayaquil City, President Rafael Correa said yesterday that six stations to purify the estuary’s water through intensive oxygenation will arrive to the country in approximately 6 months.
The machineries are part of the government project called “Guayaquil Ecológico ” which seeks to make Guayaquil the greenest city in the country, among its projects there also exists the creation of an ecological park, – which would be “bigger than Central Park in New York”- in the field of the Social Security Institute of the Armed Forces (ISSFA). The project also seeks to turn the Santay Island into a national recreation site.
Correa asked the municipality the creation of serious penalties for those who pollute the Estero Salado; otherwise he will declare the site as a protected area so that the regime could intervene directly.
