Intelligent Traffic Lights will Regulate Entry of Goods Into the Country

Posted On 24 May 2011

The Ecuadorian Customs will implement a new computer system to record data that passengers originate in airlines as well as in immigration and in the IRS and thus exert more control in the passenger that comes to the country.

With this mechanism, the entity intends to build a profile of the passenger and detect whether it represents a risk to enter goods as part of the luggage and not by declaring it in the customs form delivered in the airlines.

The National Customs Service (SENA) performs tests in Guayaquil Airport with a ‘light’ that starts to check randomly when the user presses a button. It is expected that by the end of the year, the light will be automated and will active itself using passenger’s data contained in the computer system of the Seine.

The unit will light (green or red) to determine whether the person has frequent short trips to the same destination, or if several suitcases have been brought without paying overweight, it would be able to detect also if the name of the passenger is linked to a shop or a boutique, among others.

The passenger will be allowed to enter with a TV up to 22″, a computer or a telephone, among other items. If travelers declare the correspondent assessment, the Customs will allow them to pay taxes in the arrival hall as long as FOB value is less than $ 2,000, otherwise it will be sent temporarily to a warehouse for regular release.
