Quito citizens ride bikes to help the environment
At about 08:00 am today citizens from Quito, Ecuador, began a campaign called “Let’s go to work by bike, 1,000 cars less”, as part of good environmental practices in municipal institutions. It was organized by the Metropolitan Municipality of Quito and the Ministry of environment and with the support of CiclóPolis who provided identification bracelets to participants.
The tour began in the tribune of the Shyris, where hundreds of people gathered, culminating in the Plaza Grande.
Augusto Barrera, mayor of the capital city, encouraged the citizen to use bicycles for transportation in order to lower high levels of pollution in the capital of the Republic, and called for private motorists to respect the exclusive area of the bike lanes.
