Christine Lagarde Assumed the Office of IMF

This Tuesday the former ministry of French Economy, Christine Lagarde became the first woman to assume the leadership of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after she was chosen as the new managing director of the agency.

Lagarde wil be replacing the French Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is being accused on rape charges. Although there are no recent events scheduled, her first meeting with the press would be on Wednesday.

Lagarde assumed her post just after five days of being chosen for the job. The tradition of choosing a European director for the IMF goes back to its creation and the World Bank (WB) in 1945. (AV)
