Yesterday the Inter-American Press Association (SIP for its Spanish acronym) expressed their concern regarding the electoral reform bill presented by the Ecuadorian Government.

The organization warned that such bill would “affect the work of the press and the right of the citizens to be properly informed during the electoral process that will precede the presidential and legislative elections of January 2013.”

Such bill would be approved on February 4 as part of a reform of the Electoral Law and Political Organizations of Ecuador, named Democracy Code. According to SIP it includes the partial veto of the Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa.

President of the SIP, Gustavo Mohme, said “This new reform is a direct attack against the freedom of press and expression and the public right to be informed.” (AV)
