Emilio Palacio to Request Political Asylum in the US

Journalist and former editor of opinion for El Universo newspaper, Emilio Palacio, will formally request tomorrow political asylum in the United States. Palacio is facing a sentence of three years in Ecuador by the demand made by the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa.

The former editor will attend the Department of State in Miami at 08:00 in the morning (GMT) to request political asylum in the country. After his request is made, the authorities will study the petition to reach a verdict, Palacio could appeal later.

“I am optimist, although the process can take a few months, since the authorities of this country evaluate a large number of asylum requests,” added the journalist after stating that this has been a tough decision for his whole family. (AV)
