Strong Seism Shook Esmeralda Province in Ecuador

A seism of 5,6 degrees in the Richter scale occurred in the province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. According to the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School, the natural phenomena happened at 05:54 (GMT) in the morning in a dept of 45 km.
The seism was registered at 55 km from the city of Esmeraldas in the northwest of the country. This quake was also felt in some areas of Quito, Ibarra, Quevedo and certain sectors of the Manabi and Guayas provinces.
Through the request of Manuel Casanova, mayor of the province of Esmeraldas the Operations Committee of Emergency (COE by its Spanish acronym) of Quininde started to evaluate the damages. So far there are no casualties or serious structural damage. (AV)
