Baltasar Garzon disabled by Spanish Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Spain sentenced the judge Baltasar Garzon by the case of illegal eavesdropping Gürtel. The sentence disables judge Garzon for 11 years by the felonies of malfeasance, for ordering to tape the conversations that the accused of the “Gürtel case” had with their attorneys while in prison. For intercepting and extending the trial knowing it violated the right of defense.

The trial began in 2009, but when the judicial process threatened to unravel a corruption network linked to Partido Popular, afterwards Garzon was suspended in 2010 to determine his responsibility for abusing his authority. This process is known as the “Gürtel case.”

Garzon is also being trialed for overcoming his legal authority during the investigation about the violation of human rights under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco.

The third process that the judge faces is related to the payments he received while sharing courses in New York. The plaintiffs accuse Garzon of extortion and that he should be imprisoned. (AV)
