Inti Raymi Begins in Ecuador

In provinces such as Imbabura, Pichincha, Chimborazo and Cañar, the tradicional Festival of the Sun or Inti Raymi, is being celebrated or about to be celebrated.
The Inti Raymi was a religious ceremony of the Inca Empire in honor of the god Inti or Sun. It also marked the winter solstice and the New Year in the Andes at the southern hemisphere.
The event is organized by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC for its spanish acronym) and the local parish council, with other surrounding communities.
At the canton Cañar, the celebrations begin today and end on Sunday. Meanwhile, in Imbabura, the celebrations will continue tomorrow from 15:00. The celebration will end on July 7. (MZ)
