Turkey Declares Jet Fall as a Hostile Act

This Sunday, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu stated that the shooting down of one of its military fighters jets by Syria is a hostile act. The message was delivered by the ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal who called the incident as a “hostile movement.”

Meanwhile Turkish search-and-rescue teams found the wreckage of the unarmed F-4 fighter jet in the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday, it was located at 4,260 feet underwater. There is still no word about the two pilots who were reported missing yesterday.

The incident raises the heat between the two regional powers significantly. Turkey has taken its case to NATO, and called for a meeting under NATO’s Article 4, which deals with what happens to “territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.”

On the other hand the British Foreign Minister, William Hague called the incident “outrageous” and condemned it. (AV)
