United States Authorities Study the dangers of Energy Drinks

Shelly Burgess, spokesman of FDA pointed out that “The Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA) was notified for five deaths and a heart attack that could be related to the energy drink Monster, but there is no evidence of cause-effect reaction with this product.”

Afterwards, the FDA urged the citizens to inform the manufacturer or distributor of the product, if  they feel  any discomfort after consuming a dietary supplement . The manufacturers are compelled by law to notify to the FDA any complain  within a period of 15 days.

Monster Beverages is facing a lawsuit filed last Friday by the family of Anaïs Fournier of California, a teenager who died due to a cardiac arrhythmia in 2001 for consuming two cans of Monster Energy drink in a period of 24 hours.

The American law states that sodas cannot contain more than 71,5 mg of caffeine for each 35 cl. However, this limitation does not applies to energy drinks. The two cans that Fournier ingested contained around 480 mg of caffeine, which is around 14 cans of Coca Cola. AV
