Former Minister of Lula is Convicted to 11-Years in Prison

Yesterday, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) sentenced Former Minister Jose Dirceu to 10-years and 10-months in prison, Dirceu was a historical leader of the political party, Partido de los Trabajadores.

The vote of the magistrates was not unanimous, and neither was the sentence given last October 22. The magistrates that did not absolved him considered that he was guilty for being “responsible” of corruption acts involving the buying of accessions of parties allied to the Workers Party. His final argument was that, in that time, he had an important position in the government of Lula da Silva.

Dirceu was a youth  militant during the 60’s and 70’s, whose freedom was changed, in 1969, by the life of the kidnapped North American ambassador Charles Burke Elbrick, were he was also accused of illicit association.
