Today the 103 anniversary of Saint Brother Miguel is commemorated

Brother Miguel was born in Cuenca on  November 7 of 1854, from an early age he showed his interest for teaching. He studied at the  La Salle School of the Christian Brothers, there he cemented his religious faith as a priest dedicated to educate and teach the gospel.

He was part of a group of school teachers and over 37 years he taught the poor and was a catechist, attorney, director of the community school El Cebollar etc. A man of vast culture who fought for the improvement of education with texts he prepared himself  on various subjects and did translations, sacred stories, prayer books and booklets.

In 1982 he joined the Ecuadorian Academy of Language, earning awards from governments like France and Venezuela.

In 1937 he died at the age of 27, his remains arrived in Quito.

The government of Ecuador declared him as a model teacher in 1977, the year that Paul VI beatified him. In 1984 in the memorable visit of Pope John Paul II to Ecuador, Brother Miguel was raised to the altars.

Pope Paul VI delivered the cross to Nicholas Febres-Cordero (d) during the beatification ceremony of San Miguel, in the center Lorenzo Tous Febres Cordero.
