Judge Blacio would analyze prison warrant against Pedro Delgado

Pedro Delgado
Next Thursday, April 25, at 16:30 there will be an appeal hearing requested by the Prosecutor to investigate the judge Vicente Robalino’s decision to deny the preventive detention order against Pedro Delgado, former president of the Central Bank of Ecuador and cousin of President of the Republic, Rafael Correa, and who faces misrepresentation charges among others.
The detention order and a number of precautionary measures against Delgado were carried out too late by the attorney general, Galo Chiriboga, on April 8, however, the judge authorized the freezing of accounts and the prohibition of disposal of property, but did not allow the prison order issued against the former official.
The parties in charge of hearing the appeal are the judge Lucy Blacio and the associate judges Janeth Santamaria and Alejandro Arteaga. It was Blacio who sentenced Assembly member Clever Jimenez (Pachakutik) for libel against the president. She has been criticized by opposition legislators for not asking permission to the Assembly to process such demand which sentenced Jimenez to 18 months in prison and to pay a fine of almost $ 100,000 to Correa.
At the hearing scheduled for Thursday, the defense of Pedro Delgado seeks to present documents that show a series of irregularities committed by the regime in this case, so said Juan Carlos Carmigniani, defendant’s attorney, who explained that tomorrow one of the documents presented will be a letter from Delgado to Eduardo Rivadeneira Baquerizo, Ecuador’s consul in Miami (USA), which claims the impediment that he had to do paperwork at the consulate.
