Jeff Hanneman (1964-2013)

Jeff Hanneman, guitarist and founding member of Slayer, died yesterday at age 49 in a hospital near his home in southern California (United States), after being transferred for suffering a liver failure. As reported by the band on their official website.

Born in Los Angeles in 1964, Hanneman was away from the stage since 2011 for his ailment, derived from necrotizing fasciitis may have contracted from the bite of a spider. The musician founded the band in 1981 along with Slayer guitarist Kerry King, then they were joined by vocalist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo.

The four made the group one of the representatives of trash metal bands along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax were part of the club called the Big Four.

Hanneman contributed to the band writing lyrics as well as the composition of fast and aggressive melodies, influenced by punk. Among his contributions are Angel of Death, Raining blood and Seasons in the Abyss.

Before his death, Slayer was preparing his next album in which Hanneman was involved. This album, the 12th of their career would have been presented at the end of this year, as reported by the band on their website.
