The Tungurahua volcano has a new eruptive cycle
Volcanic ash fell yesterday in Patate, Baños, Pelileo and Ambato, cities that are close of the Tungurahua volcano, since last Saturday the volcano has entered in a new eruptive cycle which has lasted thirteen. In response, people used masks to protect their respiratory ways, while dozens of tourists’ sought to observe the eruption sites.
Farmers of potatoes, corn and beans are in the process of preparing the ground for sowing and for that reason would this event would not harm them much. However, there are problems with the fruit crops, which are at harvest time. Nevertheless, the activities of the populations affected by the ash, until yesterday, were relatively normal.
At the observatory of Guadalupe, Jorge Ordonez, of the technical Geophysics Institute said the volcano remains at moderate level and that yesterday at 08:30 it increased seismic level in an hour because there were six explosions that produced emissions with biggest load of ash.
