Chinesse radars in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian government announced that it terminated a contract to acquire air surveillance radars made in China, that are already in the country, but they do not work due to source flaws, and is already studying deals with France, Spain and Italy to acquire new radars.

The announcement was made by the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, in his usual Saturday broadcast, who also lamented that certain media have started a “campaign” on the alleged lack of supervision and control of national airspace and said that before there was no air defense in the country and that his administration has acquired a fleet of Brazilian-made aircraft “Super Tucano“, supersonic planes of South Africans “Cheetah” and Indian helicopters “Druv.”

He recalled that between 2008 and 2009 Ecuador hired some Chinese radars “that have flaws and therefore has already been communicated to suppliers upon completion of the agreement to acquire the equipment and implement safeguards. Offers are being considered and in eighteen months we would have new radars and a full defense system,” reiterated the Ecuadorian president.
