Trans-Ecuadorian Oil Pipeline System (SOTE)

Yesterday, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry reported in a statement, that the Government of the neighboring country is on alert for the possible arrival in its territory of the oil slick which was produced by the break of the Trans-Ecuadorian Oil Pipeline  System (SOTE), in El Reventador’ sector because of a landslide in Sucumbíos, which contaminated the Coca River and then the  Napo  river in Orellana province and extended to Peru.

Brazil’s Environment Institute (Ibama), The National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) and the Navy of Brazil were alerted about the SOTE break occurred on last May 31, are alert to the advancement of the spot, according to the report issued by the Foreign Ministry.

On the other hand, the Brazilian Government offered support to authorities of Ecuador and Peru in the tasks of containment and dispersion of the stain.

“The Embassy of Brazil in Quito and Lima are in contact with the authorities of those countries so that the Brazilian Government can be informed about the developments,” said the Foreign Ministry in his statement.

Meanwhile, in the town of Coca (Francisco de Orellana, capital of Orellana) the delivery of drinking water remained irregularly due to the the low capacity of  the provisional pipeline connection from the Payamino River to the water plant in Coca.
