Snowden has three weeks in a Moscow airport

The former CIA analyst, Edward Snowden, has three weeks, since today, in the transit area of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, while hoping to obtain asylum in Russia to get out of his confinement.

However, the Russian authorities have not confirmed the formal reception of the request for political asylum that Snowden would have done last Friday during a meeting with representatives of human rights organizations and lawyers. The meeting was carried out in the premises of the airport where he lives since on June 23.

In order to remain in Russia, Snowden said to be willing to stop his activities against U.S. interests. That was the condition that Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly imposed for Snowden to stay in his country.

After the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov declared that once the asylum request of Snowden is received, it would be studied according to the procedures stipulated by Russian law.

Against this scenario, the lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who participated in the first appearance of Snowden since he arrived to Russia, stated that the processing of asylum could be ready in two or three weeks after the request is formalized.
