National poverty fell in June

Posted On 16 Jul 2013

Urban poverty by income (for those who earn less than $77,03 monthly) recorded a slight decline in June of this year, reaching 14.93% compared to the 15.29% from the same month in 2012, as published by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), based on the latest national survey on employment and underemployment.

Guayaquil is the city that has the most overall poverty, for being a  center of development that attracts a strong migratory current from the countryside and the poorest cities.

According to the INEC, those who have an income per capita less than $77,03 are considered poor, but some analysts believe that with this line of poverty many people who receive the monthly development bonus of $50 plus an extra income are not considered poor.
